Today’s program is dedicated to cumbia, one of the most popular and representative genres from Latin America. Proudly highlighting the talent, strength and contribution of women to the genre, we recognize them as matriarchs and caretakers not only of the music itself, but of an entire culture and way of life around it. For this occasion the invited guest is Dana Yana Allpa, an amazing collector and selector of records, with an interest and focus on Latin American sounds, cumbia sonidera and other rhythms of the diaspora that inspire her to create collective memory through music. Yana Allpa is from Ecuador and resides in Lenapehoking/New York.
