Dayan Silva, aka Emma Sound Sista, grew up in Colombia, listening to the Bolero, Cumbia and Salsa records her parents bought to dance to. She realized at an early age that the most important stories of history and life itself are found in music, and so her passion for musical investigation was sparked. She began sharing music and making people dance in high school, making mixtapes for her classmates. As she grew up and her musical explorations intensified, she became the composer and vocalist of an explosive and fleeting live music project called Karuhata. In 2005 she trail blazed the introduction of Caribbean sounds at Bar BĂșlgaro, where she became a resident DJ and had a platform to share her ever-expanding musical palate to a new audience. By 2010 she was touring Venezuela, Mexico and her native Colombia with her Emma Sound Sista project. More recently, she brought her cultivated and eclectic vinyl selections to Mexico Tiene Onda, a party organized by Discodelic, the Ritmos Raros party in Washington, DC, and the Calaveras y Palmeras event organized by Sonorama in Chicago. Bursting with life and fun, her trademark sound will make you dance, make you think, and never leave you bored!
